new bylaws....
NOVICE- Any 1st or 2nd year wrestler who has not placed 1st or 2nd in ANY open tournament with 6 or more wrestlers in their bracket. The wrestler counts as 1. May not be a novice for more than two years. Placing 1st at Novice State makes you an open wrestler.
placing in open doesn't (and shouldn't) automatically place you out of novice. we know some kids that never wrestle open even though they are good enough to do so all because they don't want to lose their "novice" status. no rule is perfect. if you and your coach think your kid is good enough to go open, then they need to go open, other wise keep wrestling novice. just remember your kid won't get better until they wrestle kids better than they are.

placing 1st or 2nd in ANY open tourney with more than 6 entries DOES require you to move to open. It is clearly stated in section 11.2.

all open tournaments can affect the novice status, but there has to be the wrestler and 5 other kids to make the rule effective.
Personally, I think it's all a little silly, but then we never wrestled any novice local tourneys, just USJNC one year. what happens when the novice kid has to go open and gets their butts handed to them by some kid who has been wrestling forever? kids have to learn at some point. I think it's a good idea to wrestle some smaller open tourneys to see what it's all about.
that being said, I'm ready for my beating, so bash away.

I can understand that. If you want to wrestle some of the smaller open tournaments to get a feel for it, be ready to forfeit if you have o so you don't place. That's the only thing I can think of. Where do you draw the line? You have a kid that cant cut it in open but doenst even break a sweat putting away a novice kid. Where is that kid going to grow and get better? Where would an amature leage baseball player get better? The major leagues or taking wins away from kids in little league?

its just should be posted on the fliers so there is no confusion,I would not have ever signed him up just to have to turn around and drive all the way back home , I'm totally against it if Iwas trying to be dishonest but thats not the case

I can understand that. I never wrestled before and this is my son's 2nd year. I know there is so much to learn. The coaches know very well what the rules are because they are the ones responsible for making sure the rules are being followed. There is also a huge consequence for an open kid wrestling novice - a 1 year suspension. The coach also knew your kid placed in the bixby open. I would be quite angry with him because since he knowingly broke the rules without your knowledge, and was very close to getting your kid suspended for an entire year.

no I was the only one trying to coach him, so I can't get upset with anyone else, it was just my ignorance of not knowing the bylaws

o well i wouldnt worry about it you know now and wrestling open tournaments will make your kid that much better and more expierenced! Not really a big deal unless it is a serious novice tourney such as joc or novice state! I would blow it off
